This VPN has been present in the industry for seven years, and in that span of time, it has earned the title of being a well-respected VPN with a big reputation.

The features you get with Mullvad VPN

This VPN will offer you various features. This VPN has the typical as well as some premium features that you won’t get to see from other VPN services. In the following list, the features will be presented to you:

·  Strict no-logs policy
·  Strong security
·  Unblocks Netflix
·  Good torrenting support
·  Unlimited bandwidth
·  Kill switch
·  Various encryption protocols
·  Available on many platforms ( Windows, Apple, Linux)
·  7-day free trial

Is privacy a high priority at TorGuard?

This VPN is a US company. This being the case, the government of the United States can issue warrants that would force this VPN to cooperate during the investigation. Also, the VPN won’t inform its users. But, the customers don’t have to worry, because this VPN uses a strict no-logs policy. This means that if someone is a part of the investigation, the VPN won't have anything to give to the government. This VPN won’t keep track of your traffic logs or anything you do on the Internet. So, its safe to say that you’re completely protected.

As for the choice of encryption protocols, you will have a chance to select one of many protocols. The standard encryption protocol is the OpenVPN, and every operating system can connect to this VPN by using this protocol. This protocol is used to protect government agencies, so you can realize how reliable this protocol really is. OpenVPN is a protocol that is highly recommended by many VPN experts. Besides this protocol, you can also choose IKEv2, PPTP, SSTP, and so on.  In the section of Settings, you can pick whatever protocol you would like to use. All in all, no matter what protocol you choose, you will be safe while you use this VPN.

There’s also a very convenient feature called- kill switch. This kill switch will automatically activate when your Internet connection is compromised. Here’s an example of how this kill switch actually works.

You're sitting in a café, and you're surfing the web, all while connected to a public Internet connection with your device, let's say a smartphone. But, suddenly, your Internet connection drops, and the next thing you have to do is to turn on your data so you can get back online. That is good because you are online. Nevertheless, your Internet session could be exposed to unwanted visitors. So, the purpose of the kill switch is to kill the connection from your device, and you will be online again when your VPN connection is restored, and you will be safe once again.

Another great VPN feature is the Stealth VPN. Thanks to this fantastic feature, your VPN software is going to be undetectable. There are certain countries that block VPN ports, and the Stealth mode gets past these restrictions making your VPN software basically invisible, and it bypasses the safest firewalls on the planet such as the Great Firewall of China. This is truly a unique feature that only TorGuard VPN offers to its beloved users.

TorGuard VPN For Torrenting And Streaming Services

Torrenting is a strength of this VPN. In the name TorGuard, „Tor" refers to torrents, which only means that this VPN has safe and secure torrenting. Also, this VPN supports P2P traffic on every server in every country. This VPN service is compatible with BitTorrent, qBitTorrent, and so on. TorGuard VPN will get you access to many streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, BBC iPlayer, etc. The VPN will unblock Netflix only if you buy a TorGuard streaming IP address.

We have mentioned earlier that this VPN service works with many streaming platforms. Of all the streaming services, the most popular is Netflix, by far. In the last few years, Netflix, the streaming platform, has emerged as one of the most famous streaming services in the world. Its popularity has skyrocketed because of its TV shows that customers like to binge-watch. Basically, when you binge-watch a show, that means that you've watched one season of a show in one day. Therefore, there are many people that would like to get full access to all the content of Netflix, but they can only have limited content in their country of residence. This is where this VPN will help you and many others. TorGuard will allow users to have total access to every Netflix show and movie by unblocking geo-restricted countries. For instance, if you live in New Zealand, you can select the U.S server to get access to all of the Netflix content. Now, you will see the steps to getting your wanted Netflix content from the region you live in:

·  First, you have to sign-up at TorGuard VPN and download the app;
·  Then, you should go and connect to a server that is located in a country of your preference. We recommend the UK server, which is probably the best among all servers, is the U.S server;
·  The third step for you would be to insert your email and password and log in to your personal account;
·  Sit back and enjoy your favorite Netflix content.

Devices supported by TorGuard VPN

This VPN supports many platforms and devices. TorGuard is available on a number of operating systems. Customers can use this VPN on Linux, Windows, Android, iOS, Mac. On the website of this VPN, you can download the software for basically any operating system of your liking.

This VPN will give you the possibility to choose any device of your preference, whether it is a smartphone, PC, tablet, or laptop. To add, you can use this VPN on a maximum of five devices at the same time. Also, you can only use one account. It doesn't matter what price deal you chose; every one of them will give you this option. There is one more thing. To use five devices simultaneously, each of those devices would have to have the same operating system. You can use those five devices, but they can't be connected to an identical server. The good news is that this VPN is also available for browser extensions, like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Network speeds of TorGuard

There are many factors that you have to take into consideration before you choose a VPN, and speed is one of the factors. Here are the tests that we conducted, and here are the results of those certain tests.

Before connecting to this VPN, the average download speed was 60 Mbps, while the average upload speed was 6 Mbps. Then, we tested the VPN from a UK server. The average download speed was 20 Mbps, while the average upload speed was 5.3 Mbps.

Then, we tested the server from the US. The average download speed was 7.7 Mbps, while the average upload speed was 3.3 Mbps.

So, if you want the best connection speeds that this VPN has to offer, you should choose a UK server.

TorGuard on Windows

TorGuard’s Windows client is an easy to use and well-featured program. TorGuard provides three types of product groups: Anonymous VPN, Streaming bundle, and Business VPN. We'll be testing Anonymous VPN.

The application opens in the main menu, here you can see the currently selected server, you can change the tunneling protocol, select ports, and change the encryption method. For additional settings click on the more settings button otherwise click on the large connect button enter your username and password, and start using the VPN.

TorGuard provides quite a lot of features. There are the usual general settings like launching the app when the computer boots, including with auto-connect.

Users can also take advantage of three different types of kill switches: the first one is using Windows firewall to disable internet traffic, the second one disables network interfaces, and the last one is an app kill switch which closes the selected applications when the VPN connection drops.

In the network settings, you can find the VPN related settings: you can enable IPv6 protocol and turn on the kill switch or change the DNS settings. The DNS settings are quite extensive, there are options to change what nameserver your computer should use in different states of the VPN.

The client software also has a built-in debug system which can be useful if you are having problems with the client. On the website, you can find guides for the apps and if you have questions the support replies fast enough through the ticketing system, or you can email them but that takes a bit longer to get an answer.

Considering everything, Torguard’s Anonymous VPN is a very simple and easy to use Windows client. When using the fastest protocol settings we had a network speed of around 180-200mb/s which compared to other providers is a pretty good average.

The application is not the best we have seen, for example the design could be a bit modernized, and we noticed that while the client is connecting the whole application freezes. In the future, it would be nice to see a more stable client with maybe ad/malware blocking capabilities. During the testing, we didn’t run into any bugs and the application passed all security tests.

Using the Andrid app of TorGuard VPN

TorGuard’s Android app follows somewhat the same design scheme as the desktop edition, but it does have a more minimalistic and dark color scheme, with large and easy to read buttons.

Logging in to the app is done when you first try to connect to the network, and there is no option to create a new account directly from the application. That has to be done through the website. It’s common that the mobile version of VPN applications are way simpler than their desktop counterparts, but this isn’t true in the case of TorGuard.

The android application of TorGuard can be downloaded from three different sources either from the GooglePlay store, from Amazon, or directly from the website. The simple way of installing the program is through GooglePlay Store. Getting the app from the website is only recommended for users with advanced knowledge related to Android systems.

Just like in the Windows app the main screen has a lot of information about your connection settings. On the main screen, you can switch between UDP and TCP, select ports, and switch between AES-128-GCM and AES-256-GCM. The server list only shows no information about the server’s load or latency, the server list can be sorted by several different aspects, but there is no search bar.

The settings are surprisingly extensive, in the general tab you can turn on auto-connect and auto-start and there is also an option to turn on the kill switch. There are also options for split tunneling, which is a really nice feature to see. TorGuard also has several settings that specify when the VPN should pause/start automatically. For example, there is an option that turns on the VPN service when you switch over to mobile networks.

There are even more VPN related settings if you want to customize your settings: there is IPv6 leak protection, you can use a static DNS server, or add a VPN server with static IP address.

Overall TorGuard on Android is fairly simple to use, maybe for some users who are not that comfortable with VPN applications the settings could get a bit confusing. TorGuard VPN is a service that we would recommend to users who want a bit more than just a simple VPN client. During our testing, we detected no IP/DNS leaks, and we didn’t run into any bugs or glitches.

How to use TorGuard on Linux

TorGuard VPN provides it’s Linux user base with a graphical client. It's nice to see providers take the extra step to develop a graphical Linux client, it’s usually just a text-based terminal application.

Installing the program is really simple. All you have to do is download the “.deb” installer from the website of TorGuard and run it. On the download page, users can easily find and download the version that’s right for them.

Once the installation is completed the application can be accessed by launching the TorGuard shortcut. The application is exactly the same as the Windows version when we compared the two we found no notable differences.

The main menu has all the important settings displayed, like the protocol used, and the encryption methods. The server list has no indicator for but there is an icon indicating server load, the server list can also be sorted and filtered, but unfortunately there is no search bar.

Just like in the Windows version there are quite a lot of settings to play around with. TorGuard can use OpenVPN or OpenConnect and it supports several different ports and options to switch between UDP and TCP.

TorGuard provides three types of kill switches which aim to block all internet traffic if the VPN disconnects: two of these are responsible for preventing your real IP address to leak, and the third one closes the selected applications if something happens to your VPN connection.

Thanks to the graphical interface, TorGuard Linux client is as simple to use on Linux as on any other platform. While TorGuard is easy to use, the settings menu can be overwhelming for users who have no previous experience with VPNs. The only feature that we were missing is ad/malware blocking. During our testing, the software showed no bugs and it passed the leak tests.

Does your router support TorGuard?

We tested TorGuard on a router running AsusWRT firmware and here is what we had to do to get it working, and what we think about the service on this platform.

Setting up a VPN connection on any router running AsusWRT is really simple, but if that wasn’t enough, TorGuard has a good range of tutorials for different commonly used firmwares.

First, you have to navigate to the VPN panel of the router’s configuration page then select add new profile, give the connection a name, enter your name and password that you selected when creating your TorGuard account.

Next, you have to download some “.openvpn” files from the website of TorGuard. Once you decide which server to use, the only thing left to do is upload the configuration file and the “ca.crt” file your VPN should be ready for use.

The main reason why people usually use VPN on routers is because it secures every device on the router’s LAN network. The only drawback of using a virtual private network on your router is that it’s difficult to turn on and off and it’s hard to switch between locations.

Setting up TorGuard was as simple as it gets, and our testing shows no security problems/IP leaks and we didn’t notice any bugs or glitches while testing the service.

Customer Support

This VPN has a very strong customer support team. You can reach the customer support staff of this VPN service via email tickets, live chat as well as a phone number. The customer support staff will be at your disposal all day and all night. The customer support team is also very kind and professional, and if you contact them via live chat, they will answer you in a matter of minutes. The fastest way to get a response is via Live chat, but if you want a more thorough answer, then it would be best if you open an email ticket. In conclusion, you will surely have a pleasant experience with the customer support staff.
